The EHS Manager reports to the Plant Manager and works closely with Director, Environmental Health & Safety.  The EHS Manager will be accountable for providing safety leadership through the delivery of proven safety policies & practices for plant operations at the Richmond location.  The EHS Manager helps engage the operations team in a way that improves plant performance by reducing the risk of safety incidents, maximizing production up-time, reducing the cost of compliance, providing productivity tools that help manage plant safety, and provides the direction and motivation needed to meet Key Performance Indicators.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates and leads plant efforts in environment health & safety education, enforcement, engineering, behavior and cultural focus.
  • Analyzes accident data to identify trends and accident types that can be prevented.
  • Leads teams focused on specific EHS issues within assigned production locations, and supports company-wide initiatives-including employee and management led teams.
  • Develops, promotes, implements, coordinates and analyzes the results and effectiveness of EHS programs for the purpose of preventing personal injury, as well as, property, product and equipment damage.
  • Drives the safety culture process while implementing safe systemic work practices. 
  • Drives and shares progressive improvements in safety.
  • Aligns plant goals for increased safety, reliability and maximum operability with proven solutions that integrate process safety data, applications, diagnostics and critical control strategies. 
  • Ensures the safety and quality of baked products by adhering to all rules, regulations, policies, programs and related government guidelines.
  • Assist in accident investigations and prepare accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Assess assigned locations to identify existing or potential hazards and determine corrective or preventive measures.
  • Serve as the EHS Subject Matter Expert for assigned locations.
  • Accurately track and document all workplace incidents
  • Manage all aspects of workers compensation for assigned locations.
  • Ability to work various shifts on occasion.
  • Lead Safety Committee activities and ensure strong hourly associate involvement.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of Work Safe BC and OSHA regulations, accident investigation and analysis, worker's compensation practices, industrial hygiene, employee relations, non-discriminatory work practices and interviewing techniques.
  • Must have experience interpreting regulatory requirements, implementing and coordinating Work Safe BC/OSHA compliance programs.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional setting that involves a broad range of employees from throughout the organization.
  • Requires the ability to learn and apply appropriate company policies, government laws and statutory regulations relating to providing a safe/secure environment for all employees.
  • Requires the ability to ensure compliance with regulatory training requirements for employees in proper safety, health, environmental and security practices.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in food manufacturing in a safety related position developing and implementing safety programs.
  • Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification is a plus.
